Jiaogulan Tea

The story

Jiaogulan is a climbing vine that has taken beautifully to our raised beds on São Miguel. Native to southern China and long cultivated across Asia, it has been brewed as an everyday tea for centuries, especially in mountain regions where it became known as the 'immortality herb' — or simply 'immortalitea' — for the steady, long-lived routines built around it. People value it for a gentle, sustaining quality and the calm, steady energy they associate with a daily cup. Caffeine-free and naturally mild, it is the kind of tea you can drink first thing in the morning or last thing at night. We grow it without rushing, cut the vines by hand, and dry the leaves slowly so they keep their soft, green sweetness.

How it is made

Vines are harvested by hand, the leaves separated and dried slowly in shade. They are then packed into kraft pouches in our workshop.

How to use

Use roughly one teaspoon per cup. Pour hot water, steep for 3 to 5 minutes, and re-steep the same leaves once or twice. Pleasant hot or cold, and easy to drink at any time of day.
